Measuring guide

Measure carefully. Use the smallest size. We do the rest.

Accurate recess measurements help us make your Total Blackout blind fit neatly inside the window opening without rubbing or leaving unwanted gaps.

You only need a metal tape measure, a pen or pencil and someone to help hold the tape accurately.

Total Blackout measuring guide showing how to measure a window recess
Three simple steps

Measure your window recess carefully.

Take every measurement inside the recess and record the smallest width and height.

1

Measure the width in three places

Measure across the top, centre and bottom of the recess. Record all three measurements.

2

Measure the height in three places

Measure down the left, centre and right side of the recess. Record all three measurements.

3

Use the smallest measurements

Enter the smallest width and the smallest height when ordering. We will make the required fitting deduction.

Before ordering

Check that your recess is suitable.

Obstructions or unusually shaped recesses may prevent the blind from fitting or operating correctly.

Possible obstructions

  • Out-of-square windows of more than 15mm
  • Sloped walls or window sills
  • Interior recess decorations
  • Tiles, architraves or trims
  • Window handles
  • Other fittings inside the recess

Minimum recess depth

We recommend a minimum of 30mm clear recess depth with no obstructions so the Total Blackout blind can fit correctly.
